Helping People Follow Jesus
Healed of Chronic Cough
Even though I had a nasty respiratory infection, I had to make a trip to an auto parts store to order a case of a certain kind of transmission fluid that my van had to have.
The man behind the counter was coughing constantly - about like I was. Turns out he had been struggling with his cough for six months. But because I was coughing too, I thought, "You're coughing yourself! You have no business praying for him." "You're sick – you aren't qualified today." "How can you give away what you don't have?" - thoughts like that. So I didn't offer to pray for him.
Later that day, I remembered Eric Johnson, Bill Johnson's oldest son (Bill is senior pastor at Bethel Church in Redding, California; Eric is Bethel's missions pastor). Eric is profoundly deaf; but his lack (thus far) of a promised healing doesn't stop him from praying for other people with hearing loss - and seeing the Lord totally heal many of them.
So with that in mind, I went back to the auto parts store the next day. I apologized to the man behind the counter for not offering to pray for him the day before. He was really thankful I even brought it up and he let me pray for him... even though I was still coughing.
Two days later, I went back to pick up my transmission fluid.
Guess who wasn't coughing any more.
Two weeks later as I write this, I am still struggling with a cough from the same respiratory infection, but I celebrate the Lord healing that man - and I say BLESS THE LORD!
